Part 1 of 7
Introduction to Sports Disputes
This lecture examines how sporting governance operates when rules are breached, sanctions are imposed, and decisions are challenged. It focuses on the threshold questions that define sports law disputes: jurisdiction, proof, sanctioning, appeal, and review. Before misconduct can be punished, authority must be established. Before a sanction can stand, it must be justified. Before courts will intervene, internal processes must fail in legally meaningful ways. Using real case studies, students analyse discipline and disputes as they occur in practice — from internal disciplinary systems to appellate review and the limits of judicial restraint.
