Lecture 9: From Right to Contract

Part 1 of 6
Introduction to Sports Rights
Every governance structure, every integrity system, and every athlete relationship studied in this course depends on commercial revenue to function. This lecture examines how that revenue enters sport, what it demands in return, and how contracts reconcile competing motivations. The foundational reset is that modern sport survives on external capital — mobile, selective, and impatient. The lecture introduces the three-layer rights bundle that defines what a sports right actually is: intellectual property, contractual rights, and governance-derived authority. All three layers must hold simultaneously for commercial value to be sustained.
